What is Retinol? Do I Really Need It?

    What is Retinol?
Here are some basic insights everyone should know before starting:

What is it?⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ A synthetic form of Vitamin A known for targeting visible signs of aging, reducing the appearance of wrinkles and dark spots.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣

How does it work?⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ Retinol increases cell turnover, which means dead skin cells are rapidly sloughed off and skin is left looking radiant and youthful.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣

When should you start using retinol?⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ There is no minimum or right age. The right time is when you start to see signs of aging or want to begin age prevention. It also helps with acne scars, dark spots, sun and age spots.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ It is important to know that aside from retinol, science has yet to find ingredients that can slow or reverse the aging process. The overwhelming majority of anti-aging, firming, and anti-wrinkle creams are formulated to increase the water content of skin, temporarily reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.⁣ The most effective product you can use is sunblock.⁣⁣⁣⁣
Tips + Tricks to get the most out of your retinol:
    - Start with a lower concentration and go easy on the amount and frequency, then gradually increase application.⁣⁣⁣⁣
    - Always wear sunscreen ⁣⁣⁣⁣.
    - Be sure to alternate your retinol every other night to avoid increased irritation to the skin.⁣⁣⁣⁣
    - Always moisturize - apply Retinol ON TOP of moisturizer to prevent dryness or irritation.⁣⁣⁣⁣
    - Do not combine two types of retinol at the same time - it can lead to sever dryness, irritation and acne.
    Retinols I like:⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
@deciem The Ordinary Retinol 1% in Squalane - very gentle because the oil prevents harshness, irritation⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ and a great place to start for beginners

I used a very low concentration of retinol, but I was under the impression that the retinol makes me break out. It's probably because my skin is clearing :)
