Why Amsterdam or My New Life Chapter

Heyhey,

It’s been a while since I’ve posted my last blog post. These two months were hectic, extremely busy and full of events and happy moments. Right now, I’m having a brunch (duh, its 4pm) in Metropolitain in Amsterdam (their eggs benedict are to die for), being a bit hangover and a bit embarrassed (just a bit) for the last night. It’s Amsterdam!

What are the impressions so far…

I love it! Feels like my vibe. Without having many friends here yet, I’ve had so much more fun during this past month, than I had in Germany and even in South Africa. It’s quite hard to explain, this city just feels cozy to me, feels like home… I’m scared to be mistaken, since I actually liked Germany in the beginning, but have completely changed my opinion. It was my first country I’ve moved to, and now I definitely have more experience to understand what I like and what I don’t like.

A little more serious…

So, why have I moved to Amsterdam. I’ve got plenty of questions about it and I must say it was indeed one of the hardest and craziest decisions I’ve made. As you might know, I’m still studying. Well, I’m enrolled in a German university. I had to accomplish an internship semester in order to go further and to finally start my marketing semester. And I’ve accomplished the internship, in South Africa. And right now I must be flipping the marketing books, but I’m doing something bigger and cooler, I believe:)

My Fashion Potluck story…

When I was sending my CV out to companies, searching for an internship, Fashion Potluck has become one of them. Even though I wasn’t applying to companies in the Netherlands, was focusing on SA and New York. But something caught my eye and made me apply. Well, not something, but the combination of the words Fashion and Social Media together. Sounds like a cool position, right? So, I had a phone interview, then the Skype interview, and was invited to fly over to a personal interview. But it didn’t happen, because on the same day I got accepted for an internship in SA, which was my dream. So, the choice was pretty obvious, even though I was choosing between a freaking boring internship in SA or a cool position in Amsterdam. But my dream won. And it was the invaluable experience, I have to say.

I had to say no, explaining the real reason of it. The response was quite nice and understanding, ending with something like “let’s keep in touch”. Ya, of course, why not?! But I didn’t expect that this will happen that soon. And, in a month we’ve decided to still work together, even if it had to be remotely. And after 5 months of working together we’ve decided on my relocation to Amsterdam in the beginning of 2017. It wasn’t the easiest decision, since I’m still studying and it would cause some problems. But I felt like I should go there. And here I am. I found this job, or it found me, I don’t know. But I’m extremely happy to be working and growing with them.

And of course, check out our website, our little baby, something we’re working on every day and something we’re constantly thinking about! And… We’ll take over the world one day, so if you wanna be in trend – sign up!;)

And what after…

The plan is to work in Amsterdam full-time till September and finish my last year of studying right after. Obviously I want to continue working on Fashion Potluck, since I’ll probably be very attached to it by that time. Well, I hope it’s possible (Yes, boss?:) ).

Conclusions so far…

Party, fun, laugh, stolen bike, party! That’s all about my last month in Amsterdam. Friday evening – little bars, and since all of my Fridays I spent in bars in De Pijp I would recommend this area. Sunday Brunch – Metropolitain (oh, obviously, they saved my life today), Scandinavian Embassy, Bar Spek, Bar Botanique, Lavinia Good Food, Staring at Jacob ( still have to check this one, but the menu looks amazing).

Oh well, having too much to say, but will rather divide it in smaller portions. And if you have any questions or posts suggestions about Amsterdam or whatever else, just drop a message, of course!

xx, Julia
