Inspiring Amsterdam
Amsterdam
Amsterdam
One of the most astonishing trips for me was made the last weekend. My destination was Amsterdam – stereotyped city, which made it even more interesting for me to be discovered. And as I always do, I like to just pack my stuff before, considering the weather forecast and then without documenting myself to go and to explore the place in a totally unpredictable way for me.I was lucky to have my friend living there (I will mention her later), so we found one more bike and started exploring. Getting to know Amsterdam using this mean of transport was an extremely good decision, that is why I am very thankful for getting this advice. My trip was 3 days long and each of those, in the end, became unique and unforgettable.I arrived early in the morning, and guess what… I was welcomed by a heavy rain in the style of “Get ready for being wet your entire visit” (not in the way you thought, you dirty minds!).
By the midday I already took a shower, had a kind of lunch and equipped with my camera I was ready to discover as much as I will be able to in 3 hours, till I have to go for an internship interview. Only after 10 minutes I left the house, the rain started again and I had to hide my camera. I was able to see the things in the real mode without forcing myself to take pictures.
I was walking knowing only my final destination, taking the long ways and trying to not hit any biker, as I was the typical “head in the sky” tourist. This day I mainly discovered that it is a very international place where you can freely survive without knowing Dutch. I was absorbing the whole beauty and staring at the fashionable people passing by, while living their routine.
In the evening, after having a huge, tasty Indian dinner, we went directly to the De Pijp District into a bar where we could dance. I had the chance to discover the night life, which of course is very diverse…and I finally saw a proper one after living the last year in Reutlingen.
Next days after recovering from yesterday’s nights we were grabbing a coffee and hitting our planned destinations. I suddenly caught myself on falling in love with the place, even though I am a strong hatter of the cold weather. There I discovered that a city can be beautiful, even though outside is cold and rainy, even though the sky is covered with a thick layer of clouds, and even though everything around is grey.
Of course, besides the channels, parks, second-hand book stores, I visited the well-known Red Lights District. This area concentrated in itself everything our dirty minds could think about, all of those surrounded by architectural beauties. I found it very open-minded and at the same time, somehow scarry, as if this place exists, it means there is a demand on it. But now as I am getting economical and serious it's time to not get into deep thoughts, otherwise this post is going to get even longer, and I decided to not torture you anymore .
BTW, why did I finally decide to externalize my thoughts and shamelessly reveal them to the world (haha), it’s because being there and visiting Julia (finally I mention her) – the person who made me believe in the power of action a lot of time ago, I felt like finally having enough inspiration to start writing.
Bonus points:
*Delicious Dutch beer
*Fearless bikers
*Charismatic people
*Creative atmosphere
