Falling for autumn | ECO-FRIENDLY WAYS TO DECORATE ON A BUDGET

Falling for autumn | ECO-FRIENDLY WAYS TO DECORATE ON A BUDGET

It’s finally that time of the year again…

All the leaves are brown and the skies are grey.

And we can’t get the melody of “California Dreaming” out of our heads.

    AUTUMN IN ALL ITS GLORY

Sweet melancholy in the air, the good kind of melancholy, the one that you can comfort with a cup of ginger tea, soft sugar cookies and a pile of second-hand books.

If it was up to me it would be autumn all year long.

While the fall foliage is decorating the parks and streets with its golden charm, spruce up your interiors with these eco-friendly, affordable ideas that will have you fall for autumn in no time. And if you have any clue on how to get “California Dreaming” out of your head, please leave us a comment below, otherwise carry on, I’ll do the backing vocals.

         ADD TEXTURE

Add texture to enhance the cozy vibes.

Simple rule of thumbs: Soft, plush textures equal coziness. Instead of buying seasonal decorations made of plastic that will go out of style next year, choose to invest in beautiful pillow cases and throws that will last for a lifetime while serving a purpose as well.

A fuzzy little blanket casually thrown on an arm chair, a vegan-fur pillow added on your sofa or even on the floor if it’s big enough, next to a pile of magazines will add an autumnal flair without trying too hard.

    NATURAL ELEMENTS

Incorporate natural elements to each room. A big clear vase with leaves or branches in neutral shades instead of colorful flowers. Simple wreaths made of wheat sheaves or even a big bowl of seasonal fruit on display can be a part of the decoration.

Think outside the box to utilize the items you already have lying around at home.

Your own back yard or the neighborhood park can be the ultimate source of inspiration, and after all it’s the harvest season, isn’t it?

With a keen eye, you might be surprised by what you find!

    WALL ART

The easiest way to change a room’s vibe is wall art.

Posters are affordable, very user friendly and super easy to find on-line as well.

Select patterns and a color palette that resembles the natural shades of autumn to create the illusion of a brand new redecorated area while all you’ve done is change the wall art.

    AMBIENCE

Light plays a very important role in any given space.

And as the days are getting smaller you are going to have to use artificial light more, so you might as well use that to bring some seasonal life to your space.

A beautiful light fixture or table lamp will brighten up your cozy nights in and will amplify the homey warmth we are after this time of the year.

Drape a string of lights over a bookshelf, fill a glass jar with fairy lights as a whimsical, playful accessory. Create an inviting and relaxing atmosphere with lamps that emit soft diffused warm light. There are endless ways to play with light!

    RUGS

Add an area rug to avoid cold floors.

Aladdin's flying carpet was not the only one with magic powers. Real life rugs can work their homely magic to instantly tie a room together and give a subtle focal point to a room without breaking the bank or having you second thought the practicality of your decorations each season.

Make sure to cover high-traffic areas and leave equal space exposed to create balance.

Extend them under the furniture to blend in the room seamlessly and don’t skimp on size.

The trend at the moment is to layer your area rugs, but make sure this style is truly you, otherwise don’t go for something that doesn’t truly reflect your taste.

Now, how about a nice cup of pumpkin spice soy latte and some “The Mamas and the Papas” on the record player?

    Until the next one,

    Chelf
