HEALTHY HABITS | What on earth is Spirulina?

    http://www.chelf.net/healthy-habits-what-on-earth-is-spirulina/

Spirulina is one of the oldest life forms on Earth.

It’s basically a bluish green algae that grows in freshwater lakes, rivers, and ponds.

It has more protein than meat, fish, poultry, and soybeans.

It has the most beta-carotene of any food, and it has a full spectrum of ten mixed carotenoids. It contains all eight essential amino acids, and no fewer than ten non-essential amino acids. It is also rich in iron, vitamins A, E, and B, potassium, enzymes, minerals, phytonutrients, and beneficial fatty acids like DHA and GLA.

When it comes to nutrition you usually have to wait. Good results are not achieved overnight, you have to be consistent and patient. But spirulina works wonders and works fast- it provides a wide range of health benefits almost immediately upon ingestion.

It improves endurance, boosts energy and reduces fatigue. It helps improve the immune system, and provides exceptional support for the heart, liver, and kidneys. Spirulina is also a natural detoxifier, oxygenating the blood, and helping cleanse the body of toxins and other impurities that may be causing illnesses or other health complications.

Spirulina is also a natural appetite suppressant, and it helps to improve the body’s digestive system. It also has very powerful antioxidant properties and it helps to balance the body’s pH, thereby reducing inflammation throughout the body in a safe and chemical-free way.

You can either get it in powder form or go for the standard tablets but there are certainly more creative ways to enjoy the benefits!

Add a few spoonfuls to your smoothies, spreads and dips, sprinkle some over your salads and roast veggies or use it to season your popcorn and homemade crips! You can also use it when you bake, how ’bout some green bread for brunch?

I was recently sent a lovely care package full of spirulina infused goodies by SamaLife which inspired me to do some research and share my findings with you. However, this is not a sponsored post and all opinions are my own.

I have a degree in nutrition, I’m pretty straight forward when it comes to eating habits and I do NOT believe in superfoods. Spirulina is a potent natural ingredient, it’s not yet another diet trend. It was consumed by the Aztecs in the 16th century and it has an even longer history in Chad, as far back as the 9th century Kanem Empire.

It’s a great, natural and cruelty-free way to get lots of nutrients fast.

would you give it a go?
