LIFESTYLE

Taking a step back from the bustle of city living for a quiet home in a mountain setting is a goal for many. Mountain living is tranquil and though you may be moving to a quaint town, it's a big lifestyle change if you're not fully prepared. Some homeowners find that there is some give and take when moving to the mountains. Take a look at how you can prepare for a move to the mountains.
You'll be waking up to idyllic vistas every day.
Being immersed in nature where you're surrounded by flora and fauna, can spot wildlife, and enjoy pristine views is a great way to simplify your lifestyle. Mountain homes are ideal for those who enjoy hiking, skiing, biking, and leading a generally healthy lifestyle. The climate can be ideal in summer, but brutally cold and snowy in the winter. When you have the right tools and resources, moving to a mountain home can be very rewarding.
Whether looking for second homes with big mountain views or a perfect piece of real estate to make your new home, a real estate agent can help you find the perfect mountain home. Ashe County Real Estate, for example, offers stunning properties in the High Country of North Carolina. Homeowners can browse log homes, Blue Ridge Parkway cabins, and scenic condos with a range of amenities in the Boone and Blowing Rock real estate market.
Commuting will require extra effort.
Mountains aren't known for convenient or high-quality roads and highways, nor do they have extensive public transportation. Many mountain homeowners have to drive 20-30 minutes to access the main street. It will take longer to do things like getting groceries, going to the bank, and other daily tasks that never took a second thought. Living in a mountain is more relaxed, but you do need to be a bit organized and plan out your days when you need to get things done. Do consider your commuting needs for work. Living in mountain home is a good fit if you have the ability to work from home.
Mountains mean more limited conveniences.
Living in a laid-back environment means limited access to certain conveniences. You'll be doing a lot more cooking at home as there aren't many options for eating out or ordering in. It's common for there to be a town doctor but you'll have to drive a half-hour or more to the nearest hospital. There's also limited access to contractors and construction resources if you need them for home projects. Many homeowners don't realize that living in a small population means it's next to impossible to hide or keep a private life.
When you don't have easy access to a store like Costco where you can stock up on water supplies, it can be a challenge to get what you need. Thankfully, water delivery companies can bring great-tasting natural spring water right to your door. Canadian Springs has years of experience providing spring water from popular water brands like Poland Spring, Absopure, and Culligan. This water company offers recyclable 5-gallon bottles, BPA-free 500 ml bottles, and 11.3– and 18.9–liter bottles perfect for water dispensers and water coolers. With a delivery frequency of every two weeks, the water delivery company makes it convenient to get great-tasting water.
Power outages are frequent and communication can break down.
Something to bear in mind when moving to a mountain home is the frequency of power outages. Cell reception isn't always the best, and if you are without internet, phone, and cable lines, this could be a problem. You'll need a backup plan in case an emergency happens in a power outage.
Floods also happen in the mountains, and if you live close to a river, you could be prone to flooding. Drought-prone regions are at high risk for forest fires, which often result in mandatory evacuation orders. You'll need to be prepared with the right tools and supplies in anticipation of harsher climate circumstances. Moving to a mountain home can be a rewarding lifestyle change when you're prepared for it.
