Uneasy Feelings

Panic disorder is a type of anxiety disorder. It causes panic attacks, which are sudden feelings of terror when there is no real danger. You may feel as if you are losing control. You may also have physical symptoms, such as. Fast heartbeat.

I suffer from this disorder and just when I thought I had it under control for awhile, it snuck up on me yesterday.  I will take you through my day:

I woke up between noon and 1pm, I didn't have a good nights sleep. I kept waking up because my stomach was killing me. I recently changed my diet to include more vegetables, fruit and I am on limited sugars. So I thought...ohhh my stomach is just having a little fun with the foods I have been eating.

I took a bathe and went shopping for a couple hours and it was a way for me to get out the house for awhile. I felt a little tired throughout the day but didnt think anything of it and I chalked it up to just not enough sleep.

I literarally find myself being short with everyone and had to apologize saying I was just exhausted. I ate a meal which consisted of a turkey, tomato and spinach wrap with olive oil mayo on it....which was very goood!!😁Drank lots of water and proceeded to start working on my blog ideas on paper while listening to a cd of Mary J. Blidge from 1994. I loved her album (My Life), it reminded me of when me and my best friend played it over and over.

I had to think about how I was going to play it since we had no cd player...I ended up using my computer. I was playing it, singing along and feeling good and then all of a sudden......

I fell down.  Not literally, I was in a chair sitting down and I felt my whole body fall from the inside-I got scared and thought I was getting a virus. I turned everything off, plugged in my phone, turned the lights off, grabbed some Ice water and went to lay down in the media room quietly. I realized then I had had a panic attack.

I have not had this since before I retired 2 years ago. You dont realize that your body needs rest until the damage is done or it stops you in your tracks. Usually panic attacks comes on when you are scared or come in contact with something fearful that could cause harm and other times for no reason.

What was happening to my body?

I had a rapid heart rate, breathe was very fast, I felt my head spinning even though I was sitting still. I was very thirsty and felt exhausted. Apparently my adrenaline levels were up and my body went into paralyzed mode.

What I did to get back to normal?

I took deep breathes and and relaxed my muscles and after 30 minutes I started to feel better. Note that this a temporary fix and if your panic attacks are caused by stimuli or other stresses, I would identify what it is and try your best to avoid them.

On this particular day, I had no stresses but because my body was exhausted, it wanted to let me know in a big way. There is no cure for panic disorder but there are ways to cope just take it one day at a time.

Please pay attention and listen to your body especially now with Covid-19. Stay safe and healthy at home.
