Patterns in the ivy

Nothing screams winter more than a pair of stompy boots and slouchy knits. These two have become a sort of daily uniform for me. There’s something very classic about this pairing and yet it never seems to get boring.

I always think the key to choosing comfortable and basic pieces is to find good quality fabrics. Even if you think your look is basic, you’ll always look well put together and quality pieces always elevate your appearance. Of course it never hurts to add a piece that has some subtle design element! An asymmetric hem, unusual fabric or pleats are the details I rely on to turn around an otherwise basic outfit.

I believe that sometimes, when you wear a minimal look, it becomes a bit hard to rein yourself on the accessorizing. You just throw in a necklace, maybe some earrings and some rings, a belt for some extra sass… I usually try to balance things when accessorizing: volume in the pants equals volume in the head area. All black equals silver details and so on.

I’m a huge fan of little trinkets and that half moon pendant is one of my favorites. The cap is my newest acquisition and I absolutely adore its playfulness! The Dr. Martens boots are my most cherished companion for stomping around through the puddles and the snow on any December day.

It always seems strange to me that basic is perceived as a bad thing. Most of my clothing items are basic pieces that I combine together to give me a subtle yet bold look.
