How To Wear Glitter Boots

Remember these crazy boots I wore to Vancouver Fashion Week? Crazy is always fashion week appropriate, but I wanted to share how to wear glitter boots in a more casual/everyday way.

Statement shoes have been big this season. Furry slides are probably the most common example but anything printed, colourful, or sparkly counts. Styling them is actually pretty easy. I kept it simple with jeans & a tee, but added my jellyfish bomber jacket and mirrored sunglasses to really wanted to get into the glittery unicorn mood. My Arctic Monkeys tee is more interesting than a plain white tee, and now I can say I’m the brunette-o-sonic glitter trap. Points if you get that reference.

The boots were a total impulse purchase. They were on sale for super cheap (gotta love Aliexpress) and I thought they were cool. When they actually arrived I was a bit nervous to wear them. Like they were too raver kid for me and maybe I should have gotten them in black instead. Then I reminded myself that I bought them in white for a reason and braved taking them out into the world.

So far I’ve only worn them a few times: to fashion week, a Snoop Dogg concert, to work, and for this shoot. Every time I felt a bit self-conscious, but I also always got compliments that eliminated any buyer’s remorse. And sometimes they were from the most unexpected people. During this shoot a corporate-type woman who I wouldn’t expect to wear similar shoes told me she loved them.

Moral of the story: don’t be afraid of statement shoes (or statement anything, really)! Glitter might not be your thing but maybe you’ve had your eye on something else. Who knows, they may end up being your next favourite pair of shoes.
