BECCA Cosmetics Under Eye Brightening Corrector Review

BECCA Cosmetics Under Eye Brightening Corrector was a product I had been eyeing for months before purchasing. It seemed to always be sold out online, making me even more intrigued to discover if its popularity was reflected in its performance. I was finally able to get my hands on a bottle and will tell you if I believe it is worth purchasing for yourself.

    Covers Dark Circles

With a promise of providing full coverage to brighten dark under-eye circles, the BECCA Under Eye Brightening Corrector appeared to be the perfect product for me. As someone who has always had chronic dark circles and has experimented with numerous related products before, finding this corrector seemed almost too good to be true.

    The Application

When I first applied the corrector, I found the consistency to be quite thick. This led me to follow the “How to Use" instructions listed under the product description, which suggested warming up the product between your fingertips before application. This ensured that I did not use too much product and would not create a cakey consistency under my eyes. I found the product to go on smoothly after this, although it did take quite a bit of dabbing to fully blend the product.

    The Results

Upon my first application, although not completely erased, I was able to see a notable difference in the appearance of my under eye circles. However, instead of the area appearing brightened, there seemed to be a grey undertone beneath my eyes. I decided to experiment with different ways to use the product in an attempt to divert this, and discovered that applying my everyday concealer, NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer, after the corrector instead of before the corrector did the trick.

    The Ingredients

As far as the ingredients of this product are concerned, after some research I realized that one key ingredient has several beneficial effects: castor oil. Castor oil is known to be a natural moisturizer, often used in cosmetic products to promote hydration. This is great to have in the under eye corrector because it helps the product blend smoothly, and avoids creating a cakey appearance where the product is applied beneath your eyes.

    The Price

Although I was eager to make this purchase from BECCA Cosmetics, the corrector came with a somewhat hefty price tag. At $32 a bottle, it is triple the price of many drugstore products, such as Covergirl’s Trublend Undercover Concealer, which retails for $10.99 and has the same goal of diminishing dark circles. The price of BECCA’s Under Eye Brightening Corrector therefore has to be weighed with the quality and quantity of the product as compared to cheaper alternatives.

    The Shades

As someone who has very fair skin, I had no problem determining that I should be purchasing the Light to Medium shade, which is described by BECCA Cosmetics as a “pearlized, peachy pink”. However, I was disappointed to see that this product was only offered in one other shade, Medium to Deep, which they classify as a “rich, pearlized apricot”. Only offering two different shades does not give all women the opportunity to use this product in an effective manner, as only certain skin tones would match the product’s coloring.

    Conclusion

After using the BECCA Cosmetics Under Eye Brightening Corrector for two months now, I believe there are both pros and cons to this product. I have condensed those for you here:

     Pros

    • Diminishes the appearance of dark under eye circles

    • Product lasts a long time

    • Easy to apply

     Cons

    • Is more expensive than your average drug store makeup

    • Doesn't give 100% coverage

    • Shade options are limited

    • Can be hard to find

It is worth noting that although I do see a prominent difference when using it in my under-eye area, it is not the miracle I had hoped to find in completely erasing my dark circles. Perhaps it may be more effective with BECCA Cosmetics Anti-Fatigue Under Eye Primer and Setting Powder, which the company suggests you use with the Brightening Corrector to achieve the best results. However, this would only increase the already high price tag. Because of this, there seem to be more cons than pros, so I would advise those who may be interested in purchasing this product to experiment with cheaper alternatives first.
