7 Effective Tips to Relieve Varicose Vain Symptoms

Many people around the world regularly complain about leg pain caused by varicose vein disease. Patients often describe it as tiredness, burning, throbbing, or tingling in the legs that interfere with everyday activities. There are certain culprits that may trigger these unpleasant feelings or worsen them. If you have varicose veins or have a predisposition to this disease then effective tips below may help you prevent varicose vein disease or prevent its symptoms.

    1. Stretching and exercises

It may seem that exercises are not the best way to relieve varicose vein symptoms. However, this may really help you. Making leg stretching exercises for short periods of time throughout the day improves blood circulation. If you have sedentary work then change your position every 30 minutes and walk around periodically. If you stand most of your workday then it is recommended to take sitting breaks.

    2. Keep the legs elevated

Elevate your legs above the heart if you feel discomfort or tension in the legs. Thus, blood from the lower part of the body flows back to the heart. This promotes a more efficient work of venous valves. Elevating your legs may also help reduce swelling. You may prop your legs with few pillows or lie on the floor with your legs leaned on the wall.

If pain is unreliable, you may ask a pain doctor to prescribe you some pain relievers.

    3. Choose the right clothing

Certain types of clothing may cause varicose veins or worsen varicose veins symptoms. For this reason, it is important to be mindful of what you wear. High hills are the number one culprits of healthy legs and veins. Wearing such kind of shoes puts additional pressure on your feet and contributes to varicose vein disease. It is recommended to wear low-heeled shoes to reduce the risk of varicose veins and leg pain.

Tight clothing such as skinny jeans is another thing that may increase the risk of varicose veins. Tight clothing restricts the blood flow to your legs and may result in leg pain or swelling. Avoid such clothing and choose something that doesn’t restrict your movements.

    4. Maintain normal body hydration

It is crucial to maintain normal body hydration. The plasma in your blood is composed of 93% water. Permanent dehydration interferes with the normal work of the blood vessels and worsens circulation. Proper hydration thinners the blood so it is easier for your body to circulate. This also reduces the risk of blood clots and varicose veins. Normal hydration will also strengthen the muscles that support your veins.

    5. Change your diet

If you often experience swelling in the legs it is recommended to cut salt and salty foods intake. Sodium-rich foods may cause the body to retain fluid. It increases swelling in the legs and other parts of the body as well. Include in your diet more foods rich in potassium and fiber. Potassium can help your body get rid of excess water. Fiber prevents constipation and damage to valves that straining may cause.

    6. Rinse legs with cold water

Rinsing your legs with cold water may help relieve pain and heaviness in the legs. This is a good way to calm your aching legs after a hard day. Cold water causes the blood vessels to shrink thus alleviating the pain. A hot shower may, on the contrary, heighten the throbbing and leg cramps. For this reason, it is recommended to avoid hot showers.

    7. Massage your legs

Gentle massage and lymphatic drainage increase general circulation in the body and may help you relieve symptoms of varicose veins. Most likely that massage alone will not help you treat varicose veins but this is a good way to prevent it. You can make an appointment with a professional therapist or massage legs by yourself. It is important to avoid pressing veins directly. This may damage fragile vessels and aggravate varicose veins symptoms.
