Easy DIY Herbal Hair Oil for healthy hair
I can still remember those days when my mom would massage her special DIY hair oil on my scalp and hair at night. I didn't like though and fighting with her would become the routine. Now I can understand what miracle she had done when I see my healthy, soft and silky hair. It was her special herbal blends infused in mustard oil. She loved mustard oil, and did make a variety of DIY oils not only for hair but for skin as well.
Since then DIY oils have become my fascination. I make them every now and then and use in my everyday beauty ritual. What I love about this, is the versatility. You can play around with the ingredients and customize your DIY hair oils according to your needs or choices of ingredients.
Today's post is about one such DIY herbal hair oil I have been using now. This oil, I am going to talk about is my own recipe inspired by mom's nuskhe. Well, let's get ready to make an excellent fragrant herbal hair oil.
If you know me, you're well aware of the fact how much I love making my own oil blends for my skin and hair both. I love the whole process of collecting herbs and botanicals, selecting the oils of my choice, waiting for the infusion get completed under sunlight after 3-4 weeks. The beautiful aroma filling the house, is so therapeutic and refreshing.
About the Herbal Hair Oil:
- Regular use will help treating any scalp issues like dandruff, itching and other infections.
- The cooling action of the formula with bhringraj, hibiscus may reduce anxiety, stress, providing a good night sleep.
- Weekly Pre-poo treatment with this will keep your scalp healthy and offer longer, thicker and shinier mane you may dream of.
What I like to tell you that this blend will definitely give you a healthy scalp and hair. And only a healthy scalp can provide you with soft, supple and shiny long hair. If you want any quick fix, sorry dear this is not for you. Actually, I have no trust in instant results. Rather the proven fact is that regular use of a good hair oil can give you long, thick and shiny mane.
Easy Recipe for the Oil:
In this blend, the base is mustard oil. You might be thinking why I have used mustard oil instead of Coconut oil, the obvious choice for most of the hair oils. It's again because of my mom. She would swear by the incredible benefits of mustard oil. Enriched with fatty acids, antioxidants and vitamins, this golden liquid can do magic by offering healthy and hydrated scalp. It can deeply nourish hair follicles and gives its shine and luster look.
Oils:
So, the base is mustard oil and I have added onion seed oil and apricot oil. The ratio I follow is 3:1:1 (3 part mustard oil, and 1 part each of the other two). Few drops of Rosemary essential oil was added too.
The herbs I have used:
Amla, bhirngraja, jatamangsi, reetha, shikakai, fenugreek seeds, hibiscus flowers and leaves, curry leaves, neem leaves, tulsi leaves, bamboo leaves. Used one teaspoon each of sun dried herbs.
The Infusion:
- Let's take an airtight glass container and pour the oils first.
- Slowly add required amount of all the herbs and mix well.
- Add few drops of Rosemary essential oil. (For 250 ml Herbal oil, add 10 drops).
- Blend the mixture slowly with a wooden spatula.
- Keep the container at the balcony or on window. Ensure that the mixture doesn't expose to direct sunlight.
- Let's the herbs steep for 4 weeks.
- Filter it with a muslin cloth or with a fine strainer.
- Keep the oil in a glass bottle and use as your Pre-poo oil treatment.
- Don't throw away the remaining herbs. Grind them well and apply on your scalp and hair as a mask.
How to use:
Apply required amount of the DIY hair oil to the end and scalp at least one hour before you wash your head. Massage thoroughly and allow the oil to soak in your hair to work its magic. You can keep it for more hours. In the shower, go through the regular shampoo and conditioner routine. Healthy mane is not a far away dream come true.
So, with this game changer you're going to fulfill your passion for healthy and happy hair. If you get a chance to try this blend, please tag me on Instagram.
Thanks for reading.
