Hair masks for damaged hair - top 3 options
Product details: Garnier hair food mask - Kerastase Genesis hair mask - Gisou honey infused hair mask
Let's talk about hair masks! It's one of my favourite topics because I have always tried a lot in my life. I have very thick and frizzy hair so I've always needed products to help me with styling, straightening, damaged hair.
Today I want to give you some tips on why I think it's useful to use hair masks and which are my absolute favourites. These are part of my hair routine, together with the scalp brush.
In particular, we are going to talk about masks for damaged hair because I think they are useful to many women. You can have damaged hair for various reasons such as straightening, hairdryer, stress, bleaching, sun.
The mask should be ideal for your hair type, so it's always useful to look at product features, reviews and what it's specific for. There are now so many products on the market that you can easily find the right mask for your hair after a bit of research.
Of course, there are also various price ranges! That's why I want to suggest you three different products from the low to high price range. Don't worry! You can also find good hair masks at very affordable prices.
WHY HAIR MASKS ARE IMPORTANT?
The hair mask treatment can really make a difference in making your hair stronger and shinier, especially if it is damaged for various reasons. If you have dry, damaged, frizzy or very long hair, it is always useful to do a mask once a week. Most masks contain restorative and hydrating elements such as oils, butters and natural elements that can also help your hair's well-being. It is a must to use a mask in your hair-routine!
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A HAIR MASK AND A CONDITIONER?
The conditioner is used immediately after shampooing and has an immediate effect. It acts only on the outer part of the hair, making the hair shinier and easier to comb. The hair mask, on the other hand, should be left on for 10 to 30 minutes and nourishes the hair in depth. I usually put a hair mask for 15 min which I think is a compromise for a good result.
You can also replace the conditioner by applying the hair mask directly after shampooing. Most of the masks can be used in different ways related to what you want as a result: pre-shampoo, after-shampoo and mask.
So basically, depending on how long you leave a hair mask on you will receive a different level of hydration. If you keep the mask on for only a couple of minutes the effect will be more like that of a conditioner.
WHEN DO WE APPLY A HAIR MASK?
The hair mask is usually applied after shampoo and conditioner. It is always best to towel-dry the hair and remove excess water and apply the mask to the lengths. I recommend applying the mask 4 to 5 cm after the root (so as not to make it greasy), spreading it well over all the lengths. The longer you leave it on, the more results you will get...
I'll give you a tip: to make the moisturising process faster and deeper, tie up your hair and wrap it in a plastic wrap. The moist heat provided by the film will ensure better results.
I recommend doing one mask a week if you have damaged hair, once every 10 days or two weeks is also fine. But don't do a mask every day, or very often in general, because you will make your hair heavy.

GARNIER HAIR FOOD HAIR MASK
This mask is incredible! I bought it because it has been a trend on TikTok for a long time and I was very curious to try it too! In general, this whole Garnier line is very good and I've heard beautiful results about it. There are 5 different “flavours" to suit your needs. I've tried the banana and the papaya one and loved them!
The banana mask is perfect for those with damaged, weak or frizzy hair like mine. It smells amazing! It smells and looks like a yoghurt you could actually eat!
The things I like about this product is that it can be used in three different ways: as a conditioner, leave-in and mask. It is a product of natural origin and 100% vegan, totally biodegradable and silicone-free. If you want to know more informations click here.
It is also a very good product for the price and I definitely recommend you try it!
WHERE TO BUY
You can find this mask easily at the supermarket, it is very cheap, around from 5 to 9 euros. And you have a 100 ml size or 390 ml of product that is very good quantity for this prize.

KERASTASE GENESIS HAIR MASK
This mask was recommended to me by a friend of mine and I must say that I found it very good! Meanwhile we are talking about a product specifically designed to strengthen the hair and reduce hair loss! So, I recommend it if you suffer from this problem or if you are in a particularly stressful period or during a change of season. Also, recommended for thin hair. You will see results very soon!
The Edelweiss extract in the hair mask strengthens the hair fibre, provides intense hydration and protects the hair from breakage. The secret ingredient is Ginger Root, which provides replenishment to the hair by fortifying damaged zones of the fiber. The final result using this mask is a restoring softness and nourishment of your hair.
This mask is a little more expensive and in the medium-high price range, but this is a professional product that you can also find in hairdressers.
What I also like about the kerastase website is that you can do a personalised analysis of your hair to find out which product line is right for you. It's a test where they ask you a series of questions about your hair type and the result you would like. This is very useful because it allows you to see products that you don't know but that they recommend.
You can do the test here.
WHERE TO BUY
You can buy this product from your hairdresser or from professionals. Or you can get it easily online. In the package (all pink!) there is 200 ml of product and it costs about 40 euros.

GISOU HONEY INFUSED HAIR MASK
Do you know this brand? I discovered it by following a dutch fashion blogger on Instagram: Negin Mirsalehi. She has a bee farm as a family business and has become famous for putting honey, which is her special ingredient, in her line of hair products.
I follow her because I love her style and (guess what?) hair! I have been hearing about these products for many years! The only thing that held me back a little was the price because these products are quite expensive. But in the end I decided to try the hair mask from this line and I am so happy with it!
Gisou's hair mask gives elasticity, shine and strength to your hair. It is suitable for all hair types, but from personal experience I can say that it is better to use it especially when hair is damaged because it can provide good moisture to your hair. Towel-dry your hair well after shampooing and leave the mask on for 5/7 minutes.
Certainly the fact that the main ingredient is honey is a plus because it is rich in amino acids, vitamins and antioxidants and can establish the perfect balance for moisturising your hair. This is also the reason why this product line is more expensive: it uses organic and natural ingredients. It is worth trying because my hair has become softer and shinier, and I have also solved the problem of frizzy hair. Vote: 8/10!
WHERE TO BUY
It is very easy to find this product in many online stores (Sephora/Amazon) or directly on the official Gisou website. The price is 51 euros for 250ml of product. The packaging is very elegant and feminine…I love it!
